This 8-week internet class covers the fundamentals of renewable energy for the owner/builder.
Topics include: theory, discussions and hands-on projects dealing with the topics of ENERGY CONSERVATION, HEATING and PASSIVE SOLAR DESIGN, WATER CONSERVATION and CATCHMENT, SOLAR HOT WATER HEATING, SOLAR COOKING and ENERGY EFFICIENT FOOD STORAGE, RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY including PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS and/or WIND POWER SYSTEMS, RENEWABLE METHODS OF TRANSPORTATION and FUELS.
For each of the topics mentioned above students will learn to apply a process of:

determining the energy or resource need

finding strategies for minimizing the determined need

deciding on the most adequate renewable energy source or system to cover the need

applying a renewable energy source or system in the most straightforward way to cover the determined need
The course also provides you with podcast interviews on the above topics with our department chair Quentin Wilson as well as other guest speakers. An online discussion group for interacting with the instructor and fellow students also accompanies the course.
